Membership

There are eight categories of ACCE membership:

Individual

A person demonstrating evidence of professional practice of engineering in a clinical environment for at least three years, and meeting one or more of the following three conditions:
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in an engineering discipline or engineering technology from an accredited college or university; or
  • Certification as a clinical engineer (CCE), by the International Certification Commission; or
  • By recommendation of the Membership Committee in recognition of exceptional contributions, consistent with criteria established by the Board, to the profession of clinical engineering

Fellow

An individual member may be advanced to fellow status in recognition of distinguished service to the profession or achievement in the field of clinical engineering.

Associate

An individual committed to the mission of this organization who has demonstrated a contribution to the advancement of the clinical engineering profession, but does not meet all of the other conditions required for Individual membership.

Candidate

An individual interested in the purpose of the College and meeting the following  condition:
  • Completing the three year clinical experience requirement for individual membership after receiving a baccalaureate or graduate engineering degree

Student 

An individual interested in the purpose of the College and meeting one of the following two conditions:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate in engineering, engineering technology, or related course of study, or
  • Currently enrolled at least half-time at graduate program in engineering, engineering technology, or related course of study

Emeritus

An Individual member may be advanced to Emeritus status in recognition of distinguished service to the profession or achievement in the field of clinical engineering and:
  • after Five (5) continuous years membership in good-standing in the College
  • Be 62 years old and retired from full-time employment in the profession of Clinical Engineering, and not earning income (other than pensions/retirement) through any healthcare-related activity, including consulting. 
  • Member must have done distinguished service in the field of Clinical Engineering and
  • must provide two letters of recommendation from ACCE Fellow members indicating how he/she is distinguished
  • Must provide a complete CV/Resume
Note: An individual can be distinguished with activity in professional organizations and/or with institutions where they are employed.

ACCE Fellow members may be advanced to Emeritus Status when they meet the following 2 conditions:

  • after Five (5) continuous years membership in good-standing in the College
  • Be 62 years old and retired from full-time employment in the profession of Clinical Engineering and not earning income (other than pensions/retirement) through any healthcare-related activity, including consulting. ​
Note: Do not need letters of recommendations since being distinguished in the field is a requirement to achieve Fellow Member status.

Retired

An Individual or Associate member may be advanced to Retired Status to qualify for a reduced Membership dues (50%) upon member’s retirement from full-time employment in the profession of Clinical Engineering.

Corporate Membership

Organizations that have a business-related activity involving medical instrumentation management.
  • All Representatives will automatically have "Associate" status until they have successfully completed the ACCE application procedure required for "Individual", "Fellow", or "Emeritus" status
  • All employees of an organization with Corporate Membership receive the same discount as members for Training/Webinars

Institutional Membership

Hospitals and Healthcare organizations, governmental, scientific, academic, philanthropic, and other non-profit organizations interested in medical instrumentation management.
  • All Representatives will automatically have "Associate" status until they have successfully completed the ACCE application procedure required for "Individual", "Fellow" or "Emeritus" status
  • All employees of an organization with Institutional Membership receive the same discount as members for Training/Webinars
